Anchorage is home to about 290,000 people. The above-average cost of living means doulas charge more for services — but their software costs the same as everywhere else. Software costs hurt more where rent is already high.
Doulas in Alaska need a Business License. Requirements vary — contact your city or county business licensing office for current details.
Insurance: $500K-$1M general liability
Continuing Education: Check with state licensing board
Alaska has no state income tax. Every dollar you save on software stays in your pocket. The $561 annual savings from switching to Nexa is real money — not reduced by state taxes.
Whether you call it invoice management, a solution for jobs, or a invoicing system — most doulas in Anchorage cobble together HoneyBook, Acuity Scheduling, Dubsado plus other subscriptions. That's $840/year in tool subscriptions. Across five years at today's prices, the total damage is $4,200.
Nexa gives you the ability to exit the subscription trap. Your CRM, invoice management, calendar tool, jobs, time tracking, and financial tools — combined into one solution. A single action books a client. A single action generates an invoice. No copying between apps. No third-party glue. No integration tax. It's a lifetime license — save money the moment you switch. For doulas in Anchorage weighing the switch, the 30-day money-back guarantee covers the migration window — you can run Nexa in parallel with your existing subscriptions, verify the workflow handles your real client load, and only cancel the monthly tools once you are confident the data and processes have settled in.
I support families through pregnancy, birth and the first weeks after. A client relationship starts months before the due date with a couple of prenatal visits: talking through their hopes for the birth, their fears, who will be in the room, and comfort techniques we practise together. From about thirty-seven weeks I'm on call around the clock, with my phone on at all times and childcare arranged for my own kids, because labour starts when it starts. During labour I'm with them for as long as it takes, sometimes twenty hours: suggesting positions, massage and breathing, keeping them informed and calm, and helping the partner support them. I'm not a medical provider, and I'm clear about that; my job is support, and I work alongside the midwife or doctor. After the birth I help with the first feed and visit in the following weeks to talk through the birth and check how everyone's coping. Most families pay a package fee in instalments, with a deposit to reserve their due date, and I only take a few clients a month so I'm never at two births at once.
That is the work Nexa is built around: the job, the client, the hours and the invoice live in one place, so the paperwork side of the day doesn't need a second shift.
Every one of those was bought once and earns its keep for years. Nexa is priced the same way: $279 once, and it keeps working whether business is busy or slow.

Open on Reddit →We build a doula's guide the same way every time, and we'd rather you trust it than take it on faith. Nexa is our product, so the test we hold ourselves to is simple: a tool only "wins" a job here when it genuinely does that job better for a doula — and where something free, open-source, or buy-once does it better, we say so and link you to it. Where Nexa falls short (payroll is the honest example), we name the alternative outright.
